Pemberley In Lock-Down: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Jackie Wellman
English | 2020 | Romance| ePUB | 1.3 MB
It is the morning after Lizzy Darcy’s birthday celebrations at Pemberley. The guests have stayed for a week, but most have now returned home or will do so this morning.
However, a messenger brings grave news. An outbreak of an unknown disease has spread quickly through the surrounding towns and villages. Accordingly, the local community is locked down and nobody is permitted to leave their homes. And this includes Pemberley.
As a result, Lizzy and Darcy have to entertain a number of guests for a period of three weeks – to begin with.
The enforced guests include a number of familiar characters, as well as Mr Wood-Carton, whom Darcy knew briefly as a younger man.
But who will show signs of strain first? Will Mrs Bennet’s poor nerves hold out for three weeks? Why does Mr Bennet retreat to the Pemberley library every day? And why does Jane Bingley zealously draw portraits in the study…?
This is a funny and affectionate variation on Jane Austen’s beloved novel, showing how the effects of lock-down test her immortal characters.
