The Lord Beneath : Digging up trouble is becoming a habit for Diana Flowers.
But when she finds a collection of bones buried where she had planned to plant out her lupins, she can’t believe her bad luck.
…Especially as she doesn’t think Diggory the dog is the one who buried them.
Fergus has a wild theory about the identity of the skeleton beneath the flower field.
More shockingly still… he might just be right.
Diana and Fergus are soon in the middle of another mystery, as they unravel the largest conspiracy they’ve ever faced and search for the truth about the Lord beneath the lupins.
“That is an excellent question. If I knew the answer, then the mystery would have been solved long ago. To cut a long story very short, Lord Rushmore disappeared, never to be seen again. The last place he was supposedly sighted was near to Merryfield. Probably only a few fields over. At least… I think that’s where Kings Hill House stood before it burned down – equally mysteriously – just a few months after Lord Rushmore disappeared. And that was the last anyone saw of him. Until now, anyway,” he said, nodding towards the sorry pile of bones in the earth.
“I think the house might have been right where we’re standing,” I said, thinking of all the rubble.
We both contemplated the bones for a few moments before I spoke. “What makes you so sure that they belong to him? Other than it conveniently fitting in with a conspiracy theory. I assume there’s a conspiracy theory?” I added.
Fergus’ grin was all the answer I really needed. “Oh yes,” he said, looking like the cat who’s got the cream. “There are many theories about where the Lord disappeared to and many alleged sightings over the years. If I’m right about this, we can safely say they were all false.”
